I love free-machine appliqué and want to share my passion for it with all sewers! It’s so much fun, you get to use up all those scraps you’ve horded and you create cute embellishment for clothes, bags, quilts and more!
Free-motion appliqué, or FMA, is a great way to add fun, unique details to hand-made or ready-to-wear items that children will love.
Ballerina Briony is the first to be released with many more designs in the pipeline, including designs for boys. Ballerina Briony can be added with her head to be a complete dancer, or without a head so that the child is the ballerina. I have been wanting to make headless appliqués as they are so fun for the children to wear – and, speaking from experience, much more practical to wear to the park than dressing up clothes! Briony, my daughter, loves to do ballet around the house, and other places too, even though she only did a few weeks of class last summer (something went wrong and she refused to go back). She loves getting to be the ballerina and I love making something unique for her.
Imagine the girls from Little House on the Prairie frollicking around barefoot in flowered cotton skirts with vintage lace trim:
Or maybe you prefer the elegance and beauty of layers of tulle that can be worn as a petticoat under an Easter dress or embellished to create a masterpiece you won’t want to hide!
Or perhaps something that’s shorter and full of fun:
The Prairie Petticoat and Skirts PDF pattern has them all. In sizes newborn through to age 16, plus American doll and Build-a-bear, and four styles included, there’s bound to be one that’s just right for someone in your life. All styles have an elasticated waistband for comfort and can be pulled on easily over the hips. It is easy to create a custom fit and with the addition of various trims the possibilities are endless! I’ve been amazed at my wonderful testers’ creations.
